river
Lockkeeper's cottage reopened
It was a beautiful
summer's evening in the first week of June as Witten club members gathered
for a cruise on the MS Schwalbe. Indeed, most of us spent the entire trip
on the top deck as we chugged downstream, around Lake Kemnade, back through
the locks and upstream to Bommern before returning to the quayside.
The evening continued on the lawns of the Lockkeeper's Cottage where our
new marquee was inaugurated in time for its first official use at the
Jumble Sale two weeks later. Thomas Strauch, managing director of the
WABE, the jobs creation agency, gave a short history of the Lockkeeper's
Cottage and of its refurbishment by WABE as a small café for people taking
a walk or a bike ride along the banks of the River Ruhr. We thus enjoyed
a delicious barbecue and a few refreshing drinks as a taste of things
to come. A good time was had by all and we wish the WABE every success
with the excellent new service.
